Melissa read History at the University of Sussex from 1995 to 1998 before completing her legal studies at The College of Law, London.

Melissa has been working in the area of criminal law since 2000, eventually qualifying as a solicitor in 2005. She has built up a strong experience in everyday crime and also in the niche area of serious fraud. Melissa has acted for clients in large investigations by the Serious Fraud Office. She acted for the former Finance Director of Independent Insurance plc in an SFO prosecution before Southwark Crown Court, described by the SFO as "one of the most technical and complex cases we've had to deal with".

Since joining Saunders in 2008, Melissa has defended individuals in a broad range of general criminal prosecutions brought by the Crown Prosecution Service including sexual offences, serious assaults and theft matters. Melissa regularly appears at the magistrates and youth courts as well as advising clients at the police station.
