Melissa read History at the University of Sussex from 1995 to
1998 before completing her legal studies at The College of Law,
London.
Melissa
has been working in the area of criminal law since 2000, eventually
qualifying as a solicitor in 2005. She has built up a strong
experience in everyday crime and also in the niche area of serious
fraud. Melissa has acted for clients in large investigations
by the Serious Fraud Office. She acted for the former Finance
Director of Independent Insurance plc in an SFO prosecution
before Southwark Crown Court, described by the SFO as "one
of the most technical and complex cases we've had to deal with".
Since
joining Saunders in 2008, Melissa has defended individuals in
a broad range of general criminal prosecutions brought by the
Crown Prosecution Service including sexual offences, serious
assaults and theft matters. Melissa regularly appears at the
magistrates and youth courts as well as advising clients at
the police station.
