Although best known for non-contentious work, Robert successfully litigated Williams & Glyns –v- Boland & Brown to the House of Lords on a point concerning overriding interests in occupation, and successfully took the British Government to the European Court of Human Rights in Silver –v- United Kingdom. To some extent the Silver case was a forerunner of Human Rights law in the UK.
