Ruth
read politics at York University before completing a Post Graduate
Diploma in Law and the Bar Vocational Course.
She
joined Hickman and Rose Solicitors in 2001 working as a paralegal
in the prison law department until her admission in 2003. She
was then taken on as a criminal solicitor and has practised
mainly in criminal law since. She spent three years as a youth
court specialist before obtaining her Higher Rights in February
2008.
In October 2008 she joined Saunders and now
spends the majority of her time as an advocate in the Crown
Court. She remains committed to representing young and vulnerable
people.
Concern
for the young people she met led to her becoming involved in
youth work in her local area. She is an active member of Youth
Justice Support Uganda, a charity whose mission is to ensure
that young people working and living on the streets in Uganda
are treated fairly in the Criminal Justice System, and offered
alternatives to lives of crime.
