October 2012 – Hillsborough Families see the Home Secretary, DPP and IPCC

After 23 years suffering denigration and injustice, the Hillsborough Families Support Group has had a momentous week in which they have had meetings with Home Secretary Theresa May, the Home Secretary, the Director of Public Prosecutions Keir Starmer QC, and with Dame Anne Owers and Jane Furniss, Chair and Chief Executive of the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

James Saunders said: "After 23 years in the wilderness, the Hillsborough families were given overwhelming support by all they met, and the Attorney General also told Parliament that he will be applying to the High Court to have the original inquest verdicts of accidental death quashed paving the way for new Inquests for the 96 Liverpool fans who died.

Theresa May, the Home Secretary will announce in the commons on Monday 22nd October the details of how David Cameron's promise of Justice will be delivered. I will also have an ongoing role for the families of ensuring that those who caused the tragedy and then covered it up are held to account."
