Commercial Litigation Paralegal

Reporting to the Head of Department & Deputy Head of Department.

Hours of work 9.30 am to 5.30 pm, Monday to Friday and a mix of home and office working to suit the needs of your team.

Salary £28,000, depending on experience

Office is London based, just off Fleet Street.

Job Purpose

To assist fee earners to represent clients in relation to progressing the various matters handled by the team, by ensuring all administrative functions and case preparation work is carried out.

Role Requirements - including skills, knowledge and experience.

To assist in the progression of client files in the team through undertaking legal case work – both chargeable and non-chargeable, with supervision as appropriate.

Such case work could include:

  • Dealing with routine and non-routine correspondence
  • Drafting documents
  • Conducting legal research
  • Considering large volumes of disclosure
  • Attending clients at the office, at their premises or homes
  • Producing bundles of documents for Court, for counsel or other parties to litigation
  • Attending court to take an accurate record of proceedings
  • Attending conferences with counsel and meeting with solicitors and taking an accurate record of the conference
  • Assisting with file opening and client KYC and due diligence
  • Managing diaries and booking meetings for clients/Counsel and other individuals as required
  • contributing to the firm’s marketing activities by drafting articles and press releases for publication on the firm’s website and external publications
  • answering incoming calls including occasionally covering reception when requested to do so
  • Assisting with new client enquiries and ensure all new enquiries are appropriately logged and dealt with in a timely manner, including taking of initial details of new client enquiries and ensuring these are accurately passed on to the relevant fee-earner.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly bills as and when requested.
  • Liaising with Accounts upon the requisition of payments and disbursements, billing enquiries, and any other routine accounting matters.
  • Seeking supervision from a Partner or other fee earner when matters arise which are, or may be, beyond your competence
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties requested of you by the fee earners in your department and/or the Head of your Department and/or the Partner in charge of your team.

Ensuring that work is done in accordance with the firm’s documented procedures, with which you have familiarised yourself, the rules of Solicitor Professional Practice, and the law of the land.

You must act in the best interests of the firm and maintain client confidentiality.

You must seek supervision from a Partner if matters arise beyond your competence.

Knowledge/experience required

  • Have previous experience of working within a law practice, in a Commercial Litigation team, for at least 12 months.
