Current Vacancies

We are looking to hire a commercial litigation paralegal, to work within our commercial litigation and dispute resolution team, reporting to Matthew Purcell and assisting our growing team. The role is available immediately.

This team handles the full-range of commercial litigation as it affects businesses, charities, public bodies and individuals. The team are particularly adept at advising on professional negligence, breach of contract and large-scale debt matters, advising both claimants and defendants and is leading an expanding practice into media and reputation law and servicing clients in and around Asia.

The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate extensive experience of working on both claimant and defendant breach of contract, debt recovery and media matters.

The ideal candidate must be willing and able to keep our busy solicitors organised and working efficiently when under pressure.

Excellent procedural knowledge is essential, as is a working knowledge of the law in these practice areas. You must have completed your LPC and preferably have undertaken an advanced litigation elective.

Some of our solicitors are based in other jurisdictions, which requires a flexible approach to working. The working hours for this role will likely be from 8.30am.

  • Reviewing and summarising documents and evidence either as part of a client matter or for a potential client
  • Attending clients to take instructions
  • Handling all the team's new client enquiries
  • Undertaking legal research
  • Arranging for the electronic or hard-copy filing and serving of documentation
  • Fee-earning work under supervision, to include attending clients to obtain evidence, instructions and reviewing documentation
  • Attending meetings and hearings to take notes
  • Liaising and briefing counsel
  • Providing administrative support, including diary management, bundling, scanning and other duties as required by the team

A key component of the role is dealing with the team's new client enquiries. This can be a challenging but rewarding experience, exposing you immediately to clients, where you must quickly and incisively analyse the enquiry and work out how we could help. An excellent telephone manner is essential.

This is intended to be a mixed administrative and fee-earning role with the scope to develop the role and grow with the firm.

The firm routinely recruits its trainees from amongst its paralegals but only once a paralegal has been with a firm for a year or more.

The firm traces its history back to the 70s, but is modern, agile and friendly. We work from offices in Temple, overlooking Victoria Embankment and the Thames and are continuing to grow. We are unfussy, unstuffy and partners and heads of department are always available and sit amongst their teams. We encourage a casual (but reasonably smart) approach to dress around the office and most days there are dogs in the office.

Costs Draftsperson

Saunders Law are a London based firm looking for a Legal Costs Draftsperson to work in and run the Costs function for the firm.

This role can be office based or home based, with time in the office as required to deal with matters.

The successful applicant will be responsible for a range of varied and exciting duties in relation to Personal Injury, Commercial Litigation, and Public Law cases, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Drafting and preparing Precedent H Costs Budgets and Budget discussion reports, including but not limited to Legal Aid work
  • Dealing with N260s, N265s
  • Issuing Part 8 proceedings and drafting N252s for formal bill service
  • Seeing litigation of bills through the court process
  • Dealing with fixed costs and PI claims.
  • Attending CCMCs and Detailed Assessment Hearings,
  • Considering Points of Dispute and drafting Points of Reply
  • Advocacy duties at court, if necessary
  • Providing training, guidance and supervision to other members of staff,
  • Dealing with provisional/detailed assessment hearings including preparing bundles
  • Post-assessment work including calculation of assessment figures and oral reviews
  • Dealing with administrative tasks as required

This list is not exhaustive and there may be other duties as reasonably required.


To be successful you need to be an organised person who can work to strict deadlines. In addition, you must have attention to details and possess excellent communication skills.

Key Skills Required

  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience in drafting legal aid and Inter partes bills
  • Strong knowledge of case law and Civil Procedure Rules
  • The ability to meet targets and work under pressure with high turnaround workload
  • The ability to risk assess offers and utilise case law to resolve disputes
  • Demonstrate passion and experience in a Costs Law
  • A strong academic background i.e preferably with a Law degree
  • Legal experience as a Costs Draftsmen & or a Costs Lawyer
  • Clear understanding and application of the civil procedure rules relating to costs
  • Costs Negotiations Experience;
  • Advocacy skills helpful but not essential.
  • Excellent communications skills to work effectively with all types of people
  • Excellent analytical and organisational skills and ability to use own initiative but know when to seek guidance
  • Committed  team player,  self -motivated and professional

Salary for this position is dependant on experience with remote working so can be based anywhere, package includes 22 days rising to 25 days with length of service and private healthcare.
